Summary of Changes from Previous Version

28/10/2025: Document republished with minor amendments, as approved by the DVCR&I on 28 October 2025.

Summary of changes:

• Ethics/Biosafety at Confirmation of Candidature (CoC) – Candidates must provide a statement confirming whether ethics/biosafety approval is required. If required, confirmation of approval or explanation and timeline for approval. If not required, justification and rationale OR approved exemption (if applicable).
• Subsequent Milestones – Candidates must provide evidence that required approvals have been obtained before commencing planned research activities.
• â€~Ethics Pending’ Outcome Removed – Inadequate planning for ethics approval at CoC will result in a â€~Major Amendments’ outcome, requiring a CASP and re-presentation.
• Compulsory Training – Candidates must complete all compulsory modules listed on their Canvas dashboard, replacing the current practice of naming specific modules to future-proof requirements (e.g., inclusion of new training such as sex and consent).
