Summary of Changes from Previous Version

16/12/2024: The Defence Export Controls Procedure has been revised to recognise and reflect changes in the regulatory environment for Defence Export Controls (DEC), as well as changes to procedures for applying for a DEC permit and establishment of a new online portal by the DEC unit in the Department of Defence. The minor revisions were approved by the DVC R&I on 13 December 2024, and include:

• Section 1 – Context: The wording of this section has been updated to reflect broadened defence export controls for responsible movement of Defence-related goods, technologies and services, and to reference the Defence Trade Controls Amendment Act 2024.

• Section 4 – Procedures: The wording of this section has been updated to reflect broadened defence export controls for responsible movement of Defence-related goods, technologies and services, to reference the Defence Trade Controls Amendment Act 2024, to reflect new procedures for gaining and maintaining of DEC permits and to reference the new online DEC portal, and to recognise the establishment of the AUKUS licence-free environment (along with requirement that RMIT personnel still gain and maintain DEC permits for any exempt goods or technologies while the University’s registration in the AUKUS licence-free environment is still pending).

19/12/2023: This procedure was published with revisions as the outcome of the post-implementation review of the Research Policy suite. The six revised procedures under the Research Policy were reviewed and approved by the DVCR&I and EDRSS on 11 December 2023, and noted by Research Committee at their meeting on 14 November 2023.

The approved version of this document will take effect on 1 January 2024.
