Summary of Changes from Previous Version

The policy enables a consistent approach to the regulation of student conduct in teaching and learning, supporting staff and student wellbeing, compliance with government regulation and the maintenance and protection of academic integrity. The policy reaffirms RMIT’s commitment to managing potential student misconduct fairly, supporting the welfare and wellbeing of students and persons affected or involved in conduct matters, demonstrating compassion and empathy to students, and being guided by a trauma-informed approach for matters involving sexual, psychological or physical harm.

Key Enhancements
• Matters involving potential breaches of research integrity are reported to the Research Integrity Office, where non-conduct action may be taken in accordance with the Research Policy alongside management under the Student Conduct Policy.
• High level responsibilities of Senior Officers and the Student Conduct Board are outlined including consideration of potential misconduct reports, referral for internal or external investigation, the conduct of hearings, determinations of fact, whether reported conduct constitutes student misconduct, managing hearing outcomes and the application of penalties and consequences in accordance with the Student Conduct Regulations.
• The Student Conduct Policy â€" Schedule 1 Student Misconduct provides a non-exhaustive list of examples of actions and behaviours considered general and academic misconduct; the latter now aligns with the recently approved Academic Integrity Policy. The definitions of general, high risk and academic misconduct are stated in the Student Conduct Regulations.
• Responsibilities of students, staff, Senior Officers and the Academic Registrar in regulating and managing student conduct and misconduct are now clearly articulated.
