Section 1 - Purpose

(1) The University Academic Promotion Committee is formed under the authority of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education. The committee’s role is to review the Academic Promotion Committees' recommended outcomes and make promotion recommendations to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education.

Section 2 - Membership

(2) There will be a University Academic Promotion Committee with the following membership that will also attempt to ensure diversity of representation:

1. Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education (Chair).
2. Nominee of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education.
3. Chair of Academic Board or nominee.
4. A suitably qualified academic Level D or E employee nominated by the National Tertiary Education Union(NTEU).
5. An Executive Officer (non-voting).

(3) Quorum will be half plus one.

(4) Committee members must declare any conflict of interest arising from an application and recuse themselves from discussion of that application. The relevant Chair of the Academic Promotion Committee will attend meetings when required to advise the University Academic Promotion Committee on the deliberations of their committees.

Section 3 - Terms of Reference

(5) The Committee’s role is to:

1. monitor the promotion process with a view to ensure fairness and compliance with the application of the Academic Promotion Policy and procedures.
2. analyse promotion policy, processes and systems with regard to the equity and inclusion principles outlined in the Academic Promotion Policy, including review of diversity of participation at all stages of the application and committee stages, and identify areas for improvement.
3. review University Academic Promotion policy and procedures as required and recommend any necessary changes to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education. If endorsed by the DVCE, recommendations will be assessed by Academic Board.
4. review the Academic Promotion Committees' recommended outcomes and the results of the moderation process.
5. ratify the committee’s recommendation; or
6. instruct one or more of the committees to reconvene and review the outcomes

(6) The University Academic Promotion Committee will forward recommendations to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education for final approval.

(7) The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education has final determination on whether to adopt each recommendation put forward by the Committee.
